Blue Chip deck by Zelt

All penguins are welcomed! Today we will dive deep into the cold ocean and become one with ice on our journey. All the experiments I've done and all the struggles I overcame on my way to DUMMY THICC and #10 at peak led to this deck. In this article, I will be sharing my experience and perspective on how to master the blue deck.

BLUE CHIP

Decklist breakdown and Synergies
Actions
Spring a Leak
Can be used in so many different ways — to protect your own penguins from being iced, to prevent opponents from drawing cards, etc.
Send It Too Hard
Opponents' worst nightmare. So powerful, a board wipe that makes your opponent's eye twitch.
Bedtime Story
Our main single penguin removal that helps us to deal with penguins that are causing some troubles.
Unlikely Friends
Great late-game removal that makes our opponent encounter a tough decision, which you can exploit.
Cool Story Bro!
Awesome way to fill the shortage of cards in the opponent's ice in order to be able to play Bedtime Story
or Send It Too Hard
, or to finish the opponent.
WhatATwist
Most versatile card in our deck; there are so many different ways that you can use it:
Helps with icing the last cards in the opponent's deck with either Miss Chief, Keeper of Keys
or Penguin With Hoops
+ Penguin Who's OK
combination.
In critical situations, you can cycle your deck with Penguin With Hoops
to find Send It Too Hard
and clear the board.
Produce some extra pudge by unflopping Blue Wizard Penguin
and playing more actions.
Ingenious Idea
Provides us with an additional card draw. Pairs extremely well with Penguin Who's OK
.
Penguins & Relics
Penguin Who's OK
Considering the number of cards that it can ice throughout the game with our draw mechanisms he is our earliest game top priority
Blue Wizard Penguin
Most important pudge-producing penguin in this deck.
Penguin With Hoops
Main card draw force. This penguin's value increases drastically in combination with Penguin Who's OK
.
Sneaky Penguin
Increases our chances of getting the cards we need the most at the exact stage of the game.
Popcorn Penguin
Helps you to deal with aggressive decks and a lot of key low-vibe penguins in the opponent's huddle in the early game.
Also, because we have 4x Inspiring Story
in our deck, Popcorn Penguin
becomes our deadly weapon that is hard to counter.
Miss Chief, Keeper of Keys
Strongest late-game finisher card that, in combination with Inspiring Story
and WhatATwist
, could ice a ridiculous amount of cards. So, you should consider protecting that penguin at all costs.
Miss Place, Forgetter of Things
Can completely crush your opponent by eliminating the cards they need the most in the late game.
Mulligan guide
The secret of mulliganing is to set priorities:
0-cost rod actions: Cool Story Bro!
& WhatATwist
. At the beginning of the game, you want at least one of each.
Low-cost penguins: Penguin Who's OK
and Blue Wizard Penguin
.
Card draw mechanisms: Penguin With Hoops
and Sneaky Penguin
. You can also keep Ingenious Idea
, but only if you already have Blue Wizard Penguin
.
In general I recommend avoiding any heavy-cost cards because without a properly managed early game, your chances of winning decrease significantly.
Win conditions
You have two main ways to secure a win with this deck:
1.Ice in my veins: Your top priority is to try to mill your opponent's deck with Penguin With Hoops + Inspiring Story
or Penguin Who's OK
+ Penguin With Hoops
.
2.Vibest among the vibers: If you cannot mill our opponents deck in time, consider trying to win the last vibe check with a bunch of Inspiring Story
.You can use Miss Place, Forgetter of Things
in order to counter Bunkus, Who Is the Stars
or Bizmo, PhD Candidate
. Always keep one Spring a Leak
in order to counter opponents actions.
Strategy breakdown
Early Game:
Lose early vibe checks — additional card draw gives you a lot more variety.
Let the opponent take the upper hand and counteract.
Start building up the foundation for your future plays with cards like Penguin Who's OK
.
Mid Game:
Control the board with single-target removal tools and start icing the opponent's deck more actively.
Try to set up your win conditions based on what’s happening on the board.
Late Game:
If facing unavoidable danger of losing, utilize Send It Too Hard
to change the pace of the game.
Mill the rest of the opponent's deck with Miss Chief, Keeper of Keys
or other available tools.
Potential Substitutions
Keep Digging.
Additional action removal that works best against action-heavy yellow decks.
Got 'Em! and Daydreaming Penguin
.
Both cards serve a similar purpose to Popcorn Penguin
in icing crucial low-vibe penguins.
Miss Place, Forgetter of Things
You can add up to 4x copies in case you are facing purple a lot.
Bridge With Layer Zero
Basically an additional cheap penguin removal that combines well with Popcorn Penguin
.
CONCLUSION
Blue Chip is a powerful control deck that is based on patience and strategy, slowing down opponents to eventually take control over the game. Deck building is an ongoing process, but I do believe blue has the potential to become one of the brightest colors. Keep experimenting and adjusting to find the optimal balance for your personal playstyle and the ever-changing meta of VIBES!
